Beeswax uses

Beeswax is an exceptional natural alternative to mineral oil, which is made from petroleum. Aside from its negative impact on our climate, petroleum and its derivatives are known to be unsafe for our skin.  However, natural alternatives, like beeswax, has been proven to be far safer and more effective.

Beeswax is made by adorable worker bees that form the beeswax to raise their young in honeycomb cells. Although beeswax is processed poorly when ingested by humans, it has major skin benefits when applied topically. Beeswax carries antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties that are essential in fighting chapped skin and bacterial infections that tend to affect us most in the dry, winter months. It forms a protective wall by sealing in moisture in our skin without smothering and clogging up the pores. Plus, beeswax contains vitamin A which has been proven in multiple studies to reduce wrinkles and age spots while re-hydrating and reconstructing damaged skin cells.

Beeswax is a natural compound often used in cosmetics, particularly lip balm. This substance is very moisturizing, can help protect the lips from the harmful rays of the sun, and has a pleasant smell. It can also help prevent infections and cold sores. It has no color or odor when it is first produced. As it sits in the honeycomb, however, it absorbs the smell of the honey produced by the bees. This gives the beeswax a slightly sweet, honey-like smell. Beeswax lip balm also has this sweet smell and taste.

The following are some of the key features of beeswax:

Fights Skin Infections

Research has discovered that beeswax contains natural antibacterial agents. This is especially helpful for individuals who have excessively dry and cracked lips. These antibacterial agents can help prevent a painful inflammation that comes with an infection.

Moisturizes

Beeswax lip balm is very moisturizing, which is another major benefit. Beeswax contains natural emulsifiers, which help retain moisture in the skin. This is especially helpful for dry lips and chapped lips.

Protection for UV rays

Ultraviolet (UV) rays given off by the sun can be very harmful to the skin. Although many individuals take measures to protect most of their body from these rays, the lips are often forgotten. Using lip balm with beeswax, however, can help protect the lips as well.

Edible

Although it wouldn’t provide you many nutrients, beeswax is non-toxic and safe if ingested which is one of the reasons it makes an excellent natural and safe lip balm.

Eco Friendly

Beeswax comes directly from bees and is non-toxic, it is completely environmentally friendly and an important ingredient in a range of natural skincare products.
